Rwanda’s Foreign Affair Minister Louise Mushikiwabo nominated as OIF Secretary General

Kigali, 12 October 2018- Minister Louise Mushikiwabo candidacy was confirmed unanimously by Heads of State and Government of Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) member countries gathered at Erevan, Armenia on Friday 12 October 2018. The victory comes following President Kagame presentation of Minister Mushikiwabo as Africa's and Rwanda's candidate. The Office of the President tweeted that President Kagame congratulated Minister Louise Mushikiwabo after her confirmation as the new Secretary General of La Francophonie. The First Lady HE Jeannette Kagame also tweeted: ‘Go Louise Mushikiwabo, pretty "Imbuto" from the land of the ancestors, go, girl from Africa! Continue to carry high the torch "Agaciro", in the heart of the Francophonie! Upon her confirmation, Louise Mushikiwabo tweeted: ‘I express my deep gratitude to all those who supported me in this great adventure, until the General Secretariat of the Francophonie! To the African and non-African leaders who have brought me today to head our organization: a thousand times thank you!’ Louise Mushikiwabo, 57 has been the Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and East Africa Minister since 2009. She was previously Minister of Information She will be the at the top of La Francophonie for 4 years and is allowed to re-run for another term. She is the 4th Secretary-General of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie. She holds a master's degree in Languages and Interpretation from the University of Delaware, with French as her specialist.
