Rwanda launched the National Family Campaign with a call to promote Positive Parenting for families stability.

Saturday, 15 October 2016 – Rwanda launched the National Family Campaign under the theme "Positive Parenting, foundation for stable families." while joining the world in the celebrations of the International Rural Women's Day which was combined with the International Day of Girl Child celebrated on 11 October. The event held in Cyahinda Sector, Nyaruguru District brought together thousands of local residents, different Government Officials and development Partners  and was graced by The First Lady Mrs Jeannette Kagame.   Addressing residents of Cyahinda Sector, the First Lady called on Rwandan parents to reflect on their primary responsibility of raising their children and preserve the family’s stability to achieve national development. The First Lady noted that the stability of families lies in empowering women and girls to become reliable parents who will nurture the next generations. She added that achievements gained in empowering rural women and girls should be preserved and sustained "that is the only way we shall secure stable families that our children will enjoy to grow in."   The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Honorable Nyirasafari Esperance pointed out that the Family Campaign is an occasion for Rwandans to reflect on outstanding issues hindering the stability of families and take appropriate measures, "family is the foundation of the society. Whenever it is shaken the nation's development suffers. Solutions are in our hands as parents." Minister Nyirasafari noted. The launch of the Family Campaign Unity was marked by celebrating rural women activities and achievements, recognizing parents who received orphans in their families known as 'Malaika Murinzi', awarding the best performing 'Evening Parents Forum' known as 'Umugoroba w' Ababyeyi' and supporting poor families to graduate from the first category of 'Ubudehe'. Throughout one month and half of the Family Campaign, various activities will be conducted in all Districts with focus on improving the social welfare for the needy families, encouraging women to seize financial opportunities and supporting young girls victims of teenage pregnancies.
