MIGEPROF reaches universities for Gender Equality Dialogue

From 17-29 /03.2023, the Ministry is conducting Gender Equality Dialogue in higher learning institutions that brings together students, lectures and staff to discuss gender promotion, women empowerment and bender-based violence prevention and response.

Key Objectives: The dialogue will draw the students' attention to understand and share their views on gender equality promotion & women empowerment; and about GBV, it's consequences, prevention and response mechanisms in place.

The main covered topics:

  • The gender equality and women empowerment journey in Rwanda
  • The role and contribution of women / Girls in transformational leadership
  • Gender based violence prevention and response mechanisms in place
  • Men engagement in gender equality promotion and women empowerment in Rwanda and particularly in HLIS

Minister Bayisenge commends the Sweden Government support to mainstream gender equality in Rwanda

On 22nd March 2022, Minister Bayisenge Jeannette attended the celebration of 20 years of research cooperation between Rwanda and Sweden, organized by University of Rwanda and Sweden Embassy in Rwanda. The celebration done under the theme "Research for Social Economic Transformation in Rwanda".

Key Message: Minister Bayisenge Jeannette commended the collaborating with the Sweden Government to mainstream gender equality across all the sectors, specifically through the Gender Joint Program, which contribute to the implementation of the Government of Rwanda 's national development priorities" she added.

“There are holistic measures to protect children's rights”: Minister Bayisenge to MPs

On March 21, Minister Bayisenge Jeannette held talks the Chamber of Deputies Committee on Unity, Human Rights and Fight against Genocide on MIGEPROF's strategies to prevent and solve the problems related to children’s rights.

Key topic of discussion: Briefing the Committee on the measures taken to protect children's rights, including GBV prevention and responsive measures especially for teenagers.

Key point to note: Minister said that there is a hotline that helps in orientation in addressing children issues. There are also a joint the committee for child protection, and fight sexual violence comprised by different institutions including MINIJUST, MINALOC, NPPA, RNP.  More to that, there is use of DNA to help children be recognized by their parents in case of complain of one parent.

MIGEPROF and partners assessed the implementation progress of the AWP 2022-2023

On this March 23rd 2023, Minister Bayisenge co-chaired with UNWOMEN Country Representative the gender joint program steering committee meeting with the members of the program that discussed the outcomes of the midterm review report and the implementation progress of the AWP 2022-2023

Key speech Minister commended the efforts and commitments of stakeholders in supporting the GoR’s efforts to advance gender equality and women empowerment, despite a 2-years period of Covid_19 pandemic.

Commitment: The Ministry and its stakeholders committed to jointly cope to “from funding to financing” concept, to leverage resources in a catalytic manner to be able to mobilize more resources and increase the intervention areas.

Engagement: Minister reminded the Joint Program Steering Committee about the upcoming Women Deliver Conference and urged them to continue supporting in the preparations and building the momentum around the event of such caliber.
