Western Leaders determined to work together for a safe and resilient family.

On Thursday, September 14th, 2023, Minister Dr. Valentine Uwamariya, in collaboration with Solange KAYISIRE, State Minister in MINALOC, and Dushimimana Lambert, Governor of the Western Province, chaired the Provincial Coordination meeting to discuss family issues in the province and how to find its solutions.

General message: "As the family is the foundation of Rwandan society, family-friendly issues should be integrated into the commitments of our daily activities and followed up on a daily basis," said Minister Valentine Uwamariya.

Key Commitments: Leaders in the province committed to maximize efforts in mobilizing the community to find solutions to issues that continue to hinder families.

General information:  The Coordinating meeting was established during the 14th National Umushyikirano, and Resolution 3 called for the interaction of various institutions to address the challenges facing families. Since 2017, the Ministry of Gender and Promotion has been working with the Coordinating meeting, along with Provinces, Districts, and their Partners, to jointly review the steps taken to address various issues that are detrimental to families...

Disfunctional families in Karongi commits to adjust the mindset for the development of their families

From 10-14 September, MIGEPROF conducted a campaign in Karongi District on the positive parenting aiming combatting family conflicts, promoting parental understanding of the significance of child rights to foster safe and resilient families.

Key Objectives: The campaign aimed to mobilize various categories and encourage parents to provide equitable education and parenting to their children, promote conflict, and build a safer and more resilient family.

Uniqueness of the campaign: Minister Valentine Uwamariya visited a family that had successfully readjusted their mindset and emerged from a period of family conflict. She urged dysfunctional families to reconsider their approach and collaborate towards creating a stronger family and society.

Key activities highlighted in the campaign include:

  • Presenting discussions on fair parenting through the People's Assembly (Inteko z’abaturage), Family Evening (Umugoroba w’Imiryango), and Visiting Families Living in Conflict.
  • Providing a variety of services, including those most commonly needed for young children, aimed at combating malnutrition.
  • Engaging in discussions with District Leaders and Special Categories (CNF, CNJ, ...) on combating gender-based violence (GBV), family conflicts, as well as malnutrition.

UNHCR to strengthening a collaboration with MIGEPROF through courtesy visit.

On September 11, 2023, The Minister Dr valentine Uwamariya received Ms. Ndèye Aissatou Masseck Ndiaye- UNHCR Country Representative and Ms. Nadjia Hafsa, Assistant Representative- UNHCR Assistant Country Representative for a courtesy meeting.

Objective of the meeting: Introduction of the Country Representative and discussion on joint efforts to promote gender equality, child’s rights and prevent Gender based violence in Refugee settings.

Key Discussion: The discussion revolved around strengthening collaboration to protect the child, promote gender equality, and fight against Gender Based Violence in refugee settings and the community at large.

Key Existing collaboration with MIGEPROF: UNHCR is part of the implementers of the Gender Joint Program. Also, MIGEPROF through the Family Promotion and Child Protection Directorate joined the humanitarian Child Protection and Gender-Based Violence Sub-Sector Working Group to better coordinate efforts of child protection and prevent gender violence in refugee settings in collaboration with UNHCR.
