Bugesera: Evening Parents’ Forum Coordinators receive Parent-Adolescent Communication Booklets to help parents initiate discussion with their children on sexual reproductive health

Kigali 25 June 2018-The booklets were disseminated on Saturday, 23 June 2018 by the Ministry of Gender and Family promotion through The National Commission for Children in close collaboration with Imbuto Foundation and other partners working in the area of ASRH. The booklet entitled 'Tuganire Mwana Wanjye' was distributed to 569 evening parents’ coordinators from Kibenga Cell, Mayange Sector in Bugesera District. This will help them to educate parents to initiate a conversation with their children on Social Reproductive Health(SRH). Speaking at the occasion, Bugesera District Ag. Mayor Richard Mutabazi said: 'This Parent Adolescent Communication booklet will help us to equip parents and their children with skills that enables them to discuss sexual reproductive health and this will reduce teenage pregnancies’ Vestine Nakure who is a Parent Evening Forum Coordinator in Mayange Sector also emphasized the need for the booklet saying that they used to shy away from discussing about sexual reproductive health and she believes that the booklet will help them to equip parents with basic skills which enable them initiate family discussions around sexual reproductive health. The Executive Secretary of the Nation Commission for Children Dr. Uwera Kanyamanza Claudine thanked H.E First Lady Mrs. Jeannette Kagame, for her determined efforts in promoting sexual reproductive health and children’s’ rights through Imbuto Foundation, an organization which masterminded the content development of 'Tuganire Mwana Wanjye' booklet. Dr. Uwera Kanyamanza urged parents to educate children on sexual reproductive health: ‘We need to invest a significant amount of time in our families, to be able to set a good basis for our children secure a bright future for them. It is also our obligation to initiate open conversations on sexual reproductive health matters.’-She echoed 'Tuganire Mwana Wanjye' booklet highlights four main parts: importance of discussing sexual reproductive health with children, sexual reproductive health in human’s development, basic knowledge to enable parents initiate a discussion with children and discussing sexual reproductive health with children from different age group. It will be distributed on village level across the country through ‘Umugoroba w’Ababyeyi’.
