Be the Change: 450 Gender Champions urged to spearhead gender equality in Rwanda

The Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion has successfully concluded a transformative five-day Training of Trainers (ToT), equipping 450 new Gender Champions to promote equality and build resilient, safe families across Rwanda. Under the theme "Building Resilient and Safe Families," the training gathered a diverse group, including 300 district representatives made by district staff, National Women’s Council representatives, religious leaders and people with disability, and 150 students from different universities, providing them with the knowledge and practical skills needed for positive social transformation.

During the launch, Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Hon. Consolée Uwimana, underscored that gender equality and complementarity are fundamental principles of Rwanda’s governance, a commitment that has positioned the nation as a global leader in women's empowerment. She stressed that the country now looks to these trainees to act as catalysts for change in their communities, viewing their mission as a cornerstone of sustainable development.

The training utilized an innovative, participatory gender transformative approach (GTA), featuring tools and discussions on power dynamics, to help trainees identify and effectively address the root causes of gender inequality and family conflict.

The trainees committed to taking their roles seriously, and pledged to actively train others, challenge mindsets that hinder equality, and tirelessly work to help families achieve harmony and stability. Through this vital initiative, the Ministry continues to strengthen national efforts to foster an inclusive society where both men and women contribute equally to Rwanda’s development.
