MIGEPROF awarded Donah Mbabazi for compelling outstanding story on Gender Equality Promotion and Children’s Right

Kigali-8 November 2018- Donah Mbabazi from The New Times, was crowned on Wednesday during the the Development Journalism Awards 2018 ceremony that was jointly celebrated with the Africa Day of Information. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion Mrs. UMUTONI GATSINZI Nadine, handed to her a certificate of merit and the trophy worthy Eight Hundred Thousand Rwandan Francs. Mbabazi beat ninety-three (93) contestants who submitted their entries in the category of Gender Equality and Children’s Rights Reporting. She also emerged the runner-up for Anti-Corruption Reporting. She was also awarded as the overall best journalist of the year, walking away with Two Million, Six Hundred Thousands Rwandan Francs (2,600,000Frws) in total. ‘All I can say is ‘thank you’, said a smiling Donah, while on stage. In 2017, Donah Mbabazi, wrote a story about <link https: www.newtimes.co.rw section read>‘the untold story of female miners’. It described the life they face, the beauty in their work and the challenges they met to make a living since most of them were single mothers who look after their children. Little did the author know that her work would one day make her a winner. ‘These awards I received are evidences that hard work pays off. ‘It is amazing when your work is recognized I am grateful and motivated to work even harder’-she noted Mbabazi, encourages her fellow female journalists to keep the pace; as they should keep on winning and make their presence felt in the media industry. MIGEPROF also awarded Mr. Fidèle Twiringiyimana from TV1 as the Run up in Gender Equality and Children’s Rights Reporting category. The Development Journalism Awards was organized by the Rwanda Governance Board, The Media High Council, Rwanda Media Commission, the Rwanda Journalists Association in partnership with different organs including the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion.
