Gender and Women Empowerment sub-cluster stakeholders challenged to act together to achieve their goals

The call was made on Thursday, September 13, 2018 when National Gender and Family Cluster stakeholders met to discuss their key priorities for 2018/2019 Fiscal Year. While officiating the meeting, GEWE Sub-Cluster Chairperson Mrs.Kamanzi Jackline, emphasized that there are many expectations from women as they are the pillar of the country’s development. She requested all partners from gender and Women Empowerment areas to synergize efforts in achieving the common goal. She added that all partners need to work hard for improving family welfare and act together to solve issues affecting the society including hygiene/sanitation issues, fighting teenage pregnancies, malnutrition, illiteracy among women to mention but a few. GEWE sub-cluster partners discussed their top priorities for 2018/2019 FY including conducting dialogue in secondary schools and Higher Learning Institutions on Gender Equality promotion and Sexual reproductive health, and fighting teenage pregnancy in schools. This activity will target 40 Higher learning institutions, 1,575 Secondary schools across the country. The Director of Care International Rwanda Mrs. MUSEMBI Bena, believes that partners should focus on digging deep to find the causes of issues affecting the family. Giving an example, Mrs. Musembi said that in order to uproot teenage pregnancy, GEWE partners need to first know what are the causes of the problem and take serious measures for prevention and response. The National Gender and Family Cluster was established to coordinate mechanism to support the Rwanda Government in promoting Gender Equality, Family Promotion and Child rights promotion and protection, as well as to utilize partner efforts to improve interventions and avoid duplication. It brings together Government institutions, Multilateral, Bilateral agencies, NGOs, Faith Based Organizations and Civil Society which work in the area of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment in Rwanda.
