Two weeks in solidarity camp for former street children

121 former street children from Kigali City streets are gathered at Red Cross Kacyiru in a solidarity camp. Officially launched by Honorable Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr Jeanne d’Arc MUJAWAMARIYA on 25th June 2010, she explained to them that it is now up to them to live a better life, “The Government will do whatever it takes to make child right respected in order to build a country fit for children, but you have also to be children fit for Rwanda”. She said during her opening remarks.

The Minister continued  to tell them that the time when they were sleeping in streets is now history because they have chance to start a new life full of possibilities and take it seriously to never return in street again.

As Olive from Gasabo District said, street children phenomenon will not last, it will be overcome. As you are called the strength of the nation, you have to fight to make it so.

Jean Bosco NTIHEMUKA, is  a bachelors degree holder  in clinic psychology. He is a former street child from FIDESCO (one of street children centers), his testimony touched not only the children but also the guests, he explained to those children through various examples of his life experiences showing that whatever you want to achieve, with determination you can do it.

Children promised to stop the use of  drugs and were determined to finish their studies  in order to have a better life.
 In this solidarity camp, they are receiving different education programs such as: history of Rwanda, child rights, gender, reproductive health, etc.
