At 01:00 pm, Wednesday , 16th June 2010 at Ruhango District were gathered almost 5000 children to celebrate the Day of African Child in combination with   International day of the Family and International day to fight against child labor  with the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr. Jeanne d’Arc MUJAWAMRIYA officiating the ceremony.

This year, the theme is “Planning and budgeting for the wellbeing of the child with children: a collective responsibility”.

In her opening remarks, the Minister cautioned the parents to encourage their children in the culture of cleanliness in their mind and daily life. She express that during the demonstration of Hand washing organized in partnership with MINISANTE where leaders joined the children in hand washing demonstration.

The delegation also visited the Children forum of Ruhango and their documentation center were the representative of children, Nsanzimana Francis Régis explained to them what have been achieved so far like encouraging children who have dropped out school to return and finish their studies, family planning, participating in fighting against Gender Based Violence through GBV/CPC Committee, fighting against drugs use and promoting Rwandan culture values.

While addressing the audiences the UN resident Coordinator representative, Nana Garbrah-Aidoo congratulated the Government of Rwanda for the achievement registered in the area of promoting child’s rights and ensured that UNICEF will continue to provide support in the implementation process of planning and budgeting for children with children.
