The Ministry fulfils its role as a leader in facilitating the implementation of the National Gender Policy and Plan of Action to ensure effective gender mainstreaming and full participation of women in all activities related to the socio-economic development of the nation. The Rwandan family will be a harmonious and prosperous one, providing a sound foundation for the well-being of all its members. All children, without any discrimination, will receive full support and protection needed to enjoy their rights and to develop the maximum possible their capacities with the objective to provide contribution to family and community development in general.
Mission Statement
The Ministry in the Prime Minister’s office in charge of Gender and Family Promotion aims at promoting equality and equity for both men and women and ensure empowerment of women through the national development processes of Rwanda.
The Ministry further aims at promoting the family, as a natural and cultural basis of the Rwandan society and provide a conducive environment for the overall development of the nation’s children according to internationally agreed standards and principles.
Role
The Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion has undergone important restructuring in tandem with the public sector reform underway in Rwanda. Currently the Ministry is placed within the Prime Minister’s office to ensure strategic coordination of policy implementation in the area of gender, family and children’s issues.
